Dental Implants

Who does dental implants?

Various dental surgeons and dentists are able to perform replacing a missing or broken tooth with a dental implant. There is no recognized dental specialty for dental implants, and the dentists who place them are general dentists, prosthodontists, periodontists, or oral surgeons. That is why it is important to seek out a dentist with advanced, third-party training and credentialing in implant dentistry.

There are two main associations that identify a more focused knowledge, experience, and training in dental implants. Those are The American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI) and The American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). When a dentist is identified by these organizations, it shows a higher focus, skill, and ability in Dental Implantology. Going far beyond the education dental school provides.

A membership in just one of these organizations puts a provider lengths beyond others performing dental implant surgery. Dr. Gendler holds membership status with both which is incredibly rare across the entire country. Dr. Gendler is a general dentist with advanced training and a main focus on dental implants.

Dr. Joseph Gendler is both an AAID Associate Fellow, an AAID Fellow and an ABOI Diplomate. According to these organization sites, few dentists hold all three of these credentials.

Let’s look at what each of these organizations are about!
