Zygoma Implants
Have you been told you don’t have enough bone for dental implants? Modern research and technology advancements in dental Implantology provide a new solution with zygomatic dental Implants. Patients with missing teeth, loose or ill-fitting dentures, who have looked into traditional implants and have been told they are not candidates, now may be treated successfully. Very few surgeons across the world have experience with the placement of zygomatic implants, Dr. Gendler provides zygomatic implants to patients with advanced bone loss at our convenient downtown Hopkins, MN dental center.
What Are Zygomatic Dental Implants?
Zygoma implants are different from conventional dental implants in that they anchor in to the zygomatic bone rather than the maxilla. They may be used when maxillary bone quality or quantity is inadequate for the placement of regular dental implants.
Designed specifically for patients with bone loss, zygomatic implants are tilted and much longer than traditional dental implants. While traditional implants are placed in the jawbone (lower) and maxilla (upper), zygoma dental implants are placed in the cheekbone, or zygomatic bone, which is dense and provides excellent support. If traditional dental implants do not work due to bone loss, whether due to trauma, advanced aging and bone loss, etc., zygomatic implants can provide a secure foundation to support teeth.
Will You Need Bone Grafts?
Traditionally patients with advanced maxilla bone loss would need bone grafting, or a “sinus lift” which could add 3 months up to a year to the treatment plan, before they are able to have conventional implants placed. With zygoma implants, there is the opportunity to provide patients with upper arch and full mouth restorations in one day with no bone grafting.
Why Consider Zygoma Dental Implants?
If you would like dental implants but think you are not a candidate due to lack of supporting maxilla bone, you should consider zygoma dental implants with Dr. Joseph Gendler. Patients who have spent years in full or partial upper dentures are often not candidates for the conventional dental implants due to advanced bone loss, but can benefit from zygomatic dental implants.
