Have you recently completed a teeth whitening treatment either from at-home bleaching products on the market or from our in-office bleaching? It’s important to stay away from products that stain your teeth immediately after whitening but also if you would like to keep them lasting white. Here are some tips to incorporate into your daily routine to maintain a bright smile.
- Avoid consuming concentrated, colored or acidic foods and liquids. A general rule to keep in mind- if it stains a white t-shirt, it will mostly likely stain your teeth as well.
Top foods and beverages to avoid:
- Coffee
- Tea
- Red wine
- Soda
- Cranberry juice
- Popsicles or slush drinks
- Soda
- Soy sauce
- Tomato sauce
- Beets
- Curry
- Blueberries
- Consider using a straw with beverages to bypass contact with teeth or drinking water instead or swishing with water.
- Brush or rinse immediately after consuming stain-causing beverages or foods.
- Continue to follow good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss at least once daily to remove plaque.
- Use a whitening toothpaste at least once or twice a week to remove surface stains.
- Avoid smoking
- Consider doing touch-up treatments. Depending on the type of whitening method used, you may need a touch-up every 6 months or after a year or two. If you smoke or consume more staining products, you may need to touch more often.
